Meet our Governors

As you will see from the profiles, our governors come from all sections of the community.
Parents, staff, local residents, education, and local businesses are all represented. This is important because it means there is a diversity of views and experience to inform our discussions and decision-making.
We work together as a team and are committed to the school ensuring that all our children have the best possible education, achieve their full potential and are happy, healthy and safe during their time with us

Pat Marsden

Chair Of Governors

Pat has been a Governor at Northgate Infants since 2011.  She has spent most of her life in Great Yarmouth, working in various administrative roles.  She qualified with the Institute of Personnel and before retirement worked for the BBC in Norwich as HR Manager. She is married and has 10 grandchildren. She applied to be a Governor at an Infant school because she believes education in the early years is vitally important.   Pat visits the school regularly and reads with the children in year 2 every Friday morning. This is also a good opportunity to observe some of the teaching in class and to see how the children respond to the various teaching methods.  Whilst her background has not been in education, she has worked as part of a management team and has experience of all working together to achieve the best results. Pat is on the Finance and Personnel Committees at the school and the pre-school Sunflowers Committee. She has specific responsibility for Safeguarding and looked after children.

Julie Bailey

Parent Governor, Vice Chair

Julie was appointed Governor in 2014.   She works as a book-keeper.  She has two children but still finds time to come into school regularly. She has taken a particular interest in attendance at the school.  She took on the role as Vice Chair in September 2014. As well as attendance, she also has specific responsibility for special educational needs.  Julie was previously on the Sunflowers Committee at the school. Julie also meets with parents wishing to discuss concerns with a member of the governing body.    She is also a trained first aider. She is one of the governors responsible for the head teacher’s performance review.  Julie became a Governor because she believes every child deserves the best start in life.

Paula Waters-Bunn

Governor

Paula was appointed Governor at the school in September 2013. She was born and raised in Great Yarmouth and started working at the local Tax Office when she left college. Whilst working full time she also studied in the evenings to gain a degree in Business Administration. Following redundancy, she found a new job in an Accounts Department for a local business. Throughout her working life she has always been involved with Health & Safety.  She became a Local Authority Governor as she is married to a Secondary School Teacher and wanted to understand more about primary schools. She is keen to share any experience and knowledge she has that will help in any way. Paula has one child, a boy called Nathan She feels the job of being a mum may be the hardest job she has ever had!  She worked full time until the birth of her baby.  Paula is keen to become more involved in the school and is on the Finance & Personnel and Health & Safety Committees. She is also one of the governors responsible for the head teacher’s performance review.

Sarah Heaffey

Staff Governor

Sarah was appointed Governor in 2014 having worked as a Teacher at Northgate Infants School in Year 2, Year 1 and now teaching in Reception. She is a Member of the Institute for Learning (MIfL), a Founder Member of the Institute for Leadership & Management and is a qualified NVQ Assessor and Internal Verifier.  Sarah has a strong background in Education and Training and has worked in Belgium, Finland and the Middle East. Having two children with Special Educational Needs, Sarah has experience of the difficulties of guiding them through the education system; this has led to her developing experience of reading and writing difficulties and working with the Department for Education to influence policies at a National level. When not at work Sarah is part of a team working with the Royal Yachting Association on the Norfolk Broads teaching children how to sail.  As a governor, s he has specific responsibility for Humanities and Reception

Daniel Hunt

Parent Governor

Daniel was appointed as Governor in 2014; initially as an Associate Governor.  Daniel works as a Bus Driver and holds a PCV NVQ Level 2 and a Customer Service Apprenticeship Level 2. Daniel has three children; one attending Northgate school and he applied to be a governor so that, as a parent, he could become more involved in the school.  Daniel is enthusiastic and visits the school regularly.  He is on the Premises and Health and Safety Committee and has specific responsibility for physical education in the school.  Daniel also helps with Breakfast Club.

Kirsty Nicholas

Parent Governor

Kirsty was appointed Parent Governor in November 2014.  She has three children. She says she has some knowledge and understanding of the curriculum and a passion for the welfare of all children.  She has a BTEC National Diploma in Early Years and wants to become a Primary School Teacher.  She wants to support the school in its transition into primary status.  Kirsty is on the Sunflowers Committee and has specific responsibility for gifted and talented children and religious education.

Sonia PArker-Noble

Parent Governor

Sonia is a working mother and the eldest of two children attends Northgate Primary. She has lived in Great Yarmouth for 14 years and her family run a business in the area. When she is not at home with her children, she teaches at a local primary school that was formerly a junior school. Sonia wanted to become a Governor because she believes a good and well-rounded education can provide children the solid foundations for a successful future. She says she looks forward to spending time in school supporting the children and staff and being part of Northgate as it grows into a primary school. She is on the Health and Safety/Premises Committee and has specific responsibility for Reception.

Kimberley Sheldrake

Governor

Kimberley has been a Governor at Northgate Infants since October 2011.  She has lived all her life in Great Yarmouth, working with children in different child care settings ranging in age from 3 months to 8 years. She applied to be a Governor at Northgate Infants as she wanted to be part of the governing body. She understands that governors play an important part in the running of the school.  It was also helpful to the governing body that she was already the Health and Safety Officer for the school. Kimberley started at Northgate as a Teaching Assistant in Year 3 and is now a HLTA who works mainly in Year 2 but also provides cover in other classes. Kimberley is on the Premises/Health and Safety Committee at the school and the pre-school Sunflowers Committee and has specific responsibility for English in the school.

Paul Cooper

Associate Governor

Paul joined as Governor in 2007 and became Chair of Governors before requesting to be an Associate Governor. Paul’s educational background consists of nearly 30 years as a schoolmaster in the secondary sector.  In his last few years he was Head of Department for R.S.E. at Lynn Grove High School where he underwent a successful OFSTED inspection.  Since his retirement, Paul has followed educational trends and finds it interesting to be involved in another sector of education.  His background and experience has been invaluable to the school.
